.22 LR - Remington Golden Bullet / Remington High Velocity
The Remington Golden Bullet .22 Long Rifle cartridge gets its name from the gold colored bullet that is actually brass gilding over lead. The bullet is a lead core with a very thin layer of brass alloy that is electroplated over it. This coating was developed as an alternative to sticky wax lubricants used on .22 LR cartridges that were prone to collecting debris and subsequently damaging rifle barrels and had poor accuracy.
This round was initially the Remington High Velocity, but was renamed to the Remington Golden Bullet for marketing purposes, but even before officially renaming it, Remington advertised the High Velocity as using a "golden" bullet that resists dirt, grit, and lint.
This .22 LR line has been sold in 50, 100, 500, 525, and 550 round packages.
There are two loadings for this line, a 36 grain hollow point and a 40 grain round nose. The specifications have remained unchanged throughout the marketing redesigns of the cartridge.
